Walt Jocketty will never talk specifics on trades but he says, despite the recent woes, the Reds remain buyers as the July 31 no-waiver deadline approaches. “Yes, definitely,” he said. The Reds have been linked to Colorado’s Ubaldo Jimenez and Tampa Bay’s James Shields. “It’s all rumors at this point,” Jocketty said. “But we’re looking at any number of ways to improve our club. Our pro scouts are out checking out players. We want to be in position where we have as much information as possible. We’re looking at the top players. . . If they’re available.” Are the Reds targeting a specific area? “It depends on which day,” Jocketty said. Starting pitching seems to have been the focus earlier, but the Reds just lost two games in which they failed to score a run. “We’re looking to upgrade any area,” Jocketty said. Jimenez and Shields both are signed long-term, meaning a team that acquires them gets them for more than the short-term. That makes sense for the Reds, but Jocketty would not rule out making a move for a player who’s contract is up after this year — a so-called rental player. “I would prefer a player who’s signed if we make a deal,” Jocketty said. “So we control that player for a few years. But if a deal pops up, where a guy is a short-term solution, we’ll look at that, too. We’re looking at whatever we can do to improve the club”
Does anyone actually think the Red's are going to make a move that actually improves this team? Give me a break, they're almost as embarrassing as the Bengals. When is the last time they traded for or signed a player that had an impact on this team? I mean Rolen has been good but he's a bad fall away from a broken hip. This is the same thing that happened with the Bengals in 2005. Reds win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in forever, and Cincinnati fans are all over them thinking they actually have a chance of winning a playoff game. Newsflash people: Neither team has won a playoff game in literally forever. IT'S BEEN 20 YEARS SINCE THE BENGALS WON A PLAYOFF GAME. 20 YEARS! If you still support that franchise kill yourself. Pretty sure it's been almost 20 for the Reds too. I'm pretty sure there are still people that think trading Hamilton for Volquez was a good deal for the Reds, once again kill yourself.
P.S. If the Red's make the playoffs I will jump back on that bandwagon so fast your head will spin. Did it last year and I won't hesitate to do it again. And by the way I spelled it Joketty on purpose for any nerds that think they caught something there.
