Can We Quit With the Carson Palmer Talk?
STATELINE, Nev. - It appears the Carson Palmer media hiatus will last even longer.
The quarterback, who has sold his Indian Hill home and has said through intermediaries he will retire if not traded by the Bengals, had no comment about his situation when spotted on the driving range at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, where he is participating in this weekend's American Century Championship celebrity event.
Palmer said he is "laying low" while the NFL lockout is going on because no player movement can take place until a collective bargaining agreement is reached between owners and players.
Palmer, who is a frequent participant in the tournament, will tee off at 3:55 p.m. Friday. He'll play with Kansas City quarterback Matt Cassel and Houston quarterback Matt Schaub. All three are represented by agent David Dunn.
I'm so fucking tired of hearing about Carson Palmer at this point. Sportswriters run around talking about him like he was the second coming of Shanke-N-Blake of something like that. He came here with all the fan fare and the dreams that maybe, finally, MikeyBoyBrown had lucked into a QB that could make the team "competetive:" for the next decade. But, I'm about to fuck you all up with some truth. 9 just wasn't that good. Sure, 2005 was great and he looked ready to lead this team, but aside from that season the reasons to cheer him were few and far between. In basically six seasons (I'm not counting the season that Fitzy lead us through) he went to the postseason twice, threw mind numbing interceptions, and looked flat out miserable doing all of this. So, can we please just not mention him anymore? He's done and won't be playing for the home team at PBS anymore. Bengals fans won't have poor Carson Palmer to kick around anymore.
And I absolutely do not blame the guy, I'm just tired of hearing local sports guys talk about him as if he is a crucial part to the Bengals still. If I were in his position I would do what he is doing 233% of the time. If someone told me I had $30 million in the bank and my options were to either: A. Continue to play football for the worst owner in the history of sports while getting my dome piece crushed in by nutjobs and murderers like James Harrison and Ray Lewis, and make another $25 million; OR B. Take my $30 million and peace out back to Southern California and play in celebrity golf tournaments in Nevada, I would take option B and be on a plane to LA faster than it would take Mike Brown to reach down and pick up a penny.
